Hand In Hand
Hand in Hand for Sustainable Agriculture (HIHSA) Ltd is a Rwandan women- and youth-led agribusiness dedicated to transforming seed systems through climate-smart Irish potato seed multiplication
Seed Production
Seed Production
HIHSA uses aeroponic and sandponic technologies to produce Generation One (G1) mini-tubers from Generation Zero (G0) in vitro plantlets. These G1 mini-tubers are disease-free, high-quality, and uniform, forming the foundation for subsequent seed generations (G2 to G4) and ensuring strong, true-to-type crops for farmers.
Sandponic System
Plants are grown in well-sorted, cleaned, and disinfected sand, supplied with nutrient solutions to support strong growth and produce healthy pre-basic seeds. Like the aeroponic system, sandponics ensures disease-free, high-quality mini-tubers that can be used for further seed multiplication.
Aeroponic System
In this system, potato plants are grown in a greenhouse without soil, with roots suspended in the air and regularly sprayed with a nutrient-rich solution. This setup allows rapid growth and the production of mini-tubers while preventing soil-borne diseases and maintaining plant health.
